The prince had talks with Foreign minister Pham Gia Khiem on Monday and is scheduled to meet prime minister Nguyen Tan Dung in HCM City on Tuesday.

Prince Andrew, who arrived in Hanoi on Saturday, will also meet representatives of major British and Vietnamese companies during his visit, according to the Tien Phong (Pioneer) newspaper.

Like many Western countries, Britain cut off ties with Vietnam during the war with the US. The two nations re-established diplomatic relations on September 11, 1973, shortly before the end of the conflict.

Britain currently ranks 15th among foreign investors in Vietnam, with investments totalling US$2 billion in 110 projects.
