HSBC is the first 100% foreign bank to start operations

HSBC Vietnam Ltd with a registered capital of three trillion dong, located at Metropolitan, 235 Dong Khoi St, HCM City’s Dist 1 yesterday became the first 100% owned foreign bank to start operations in Vietnam.
Thomas Tobin, general director of HSBC Vietnam Ltd said that the event marks his bank’s presence in Vietnam and will enable HSBC to service Vietnamese economy and provide the best international banking services.
On January 1, HSBC automatically transferred total current asset and debts of HSBC-HCM City Branch and a part of asset and debts of HSBC Hanoi Branch to HSBC Vietnam Ltd Accordingly, all current contracts, accounts and data of customers and partner banks, suppliers and others will be moved to HSBC Vietnam Ltd’s data system.
After that, the bank plans to inaugurate transaction centres in HCM City and Hanoi and open a new branch in Binh Duong.
As planned, after obtaining State Bank of Vietnam’s license, HSBC will open extra seven trading offices within the first quarter of this year at Sun Red River, Asia Building and Serena building in Hanoi, Cho Lon area, Dist 7, Saigon Financial Centre and E-Town building in HCM City.
