A Russian expedition team will plant Vietnam’s national flag at the North Pole and record images confirming the time and coordinate, according to the Vietnamese embassy in Moscow.
On April 3, Vietnamese ambassador to Moscow, Bui Dinh Dinh handed a Vietnamese national flag to the head of the Russian expedition, Nikolai Kalyakin, to take to the North Pole.
Ambassador Dinh highlighted the traditional friendship and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia and thanked Mr Kalyakin for his goodwill in carrying Vietnam’s flag to the top of the world.
He said this will consolidate the friendship between the two countries and pave the way for Vietnam and Russia to cooperate in studying the North Pole.
He added that a Russian expedition team is expected to go to the North Pole in November and wished to invite a representative from Vietnam to go with them.
