Canada will impose provisional anti-dumping duties of up to 49 percent on footwear originating from Vietnam following a recent investigation.
The duties were released after the Canada Border Services Agency issued a preliminary ruling in late May that waterproof rubber footwear and waterproof footwear in nearly finished form from Vietnam had been dumped in the North American country, said the Vietnam Competition Authority.
The agency has also hit products originating in China with antidumping duties of 21.7-52.3 percent.
In Vietnam, Vinh Long Footwear will pay 27.4 percent, Pou Yuen 23.9 percent, Fulgent Sun Footwear 14.8 percent and Stateway Vietnam 5.2 percent.
Anti-dumping taxes of 16 percent will be imposed on non-sampled exporters while non-cooperative businesses will pay 49 percent.
The authority said the agency will issue a final resolution in August after it sends a group to investigate Vietnamese footwear businesses next week.
The investigation follows a complaint filed by the Shoe Manufactures’ Association of Canada in Baie-d’Urefe, Québec. Vietnam exported US$93 million worth of footwear to Canada last year.
