Vietnam, Brazil meet to boost agriculture cooperation

HANOI - Many Vietnamese and Brazilian businesses held a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam to look for investment opportunities in agriculture and food processing industry, the local newspaper Vietnam Economic Times reported Thursday.
The meeting was organized by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in Ho Chi Minh City in coordination with Brazilian embassy in Vietnam, said the newspaper.
At the meeting, Brazilian agricultural experts said that Brazilhas a great potential in farming and food industry, especially meat and dairy products.
The meeting offered a chance for Vietnamese businesses to exchange information with Brazilian partners in food and agricultural product processing, said Nguyen The Hung, deputy director of the VCCI.
Vietnam mainly exports seafood, vegetables, garment and handicrafts to Brazil and imports wheat, milk and dairy products, wood, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and plastic from the South American country, said Hung.
In 2008, two-way trade between Vietnam and Brazil reached over 556 million U.S. dollars. Of the total, Vietnam raked in 138 million U.S. dollars from exports, according to the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Ho Chi Minh City.
