Vietnam-France trade surges

Vietnam-France bilateral trade turnover surged strongly in first nine months of this year, reaching 1.56 billion euro, up 19 percent from the same period last year and it is expected at 1.99 billion euro in 2010, higher than 1.74 billion euro of 2009, according to Vietnamese trade counsellor in France, Pham Xuan Yen.
Vietnam's export turnover to France in first nine months this year fetched over one billion euro, rising 11.5 percent year-on-year and the growing momentum is expected to continue to maintain till the end of this year with key items such as mechanics, leather products and garment and textile.
According to Yen, Vietnam's export turnover for seafood commodities this year may increase 34 percent year-on-year. Other Vietnamese export items to the French market are on the growth momentum such as apparel products (176.8 million euro in September, up 3.2 percent) and appliances (97.3 million euro, rising 6.9 percent).
Meanwhile, Vietnam's import spending from French market has started to increase from 2009 and may see a growth of 25 percent per year from 2010.
During the first nine months this year, the country's import value from French market was over 509 million euro, up 38.2 percent year-on-year, for items like equipments for aircraft, pharmaceutical, mechanics, electronic products and chemicals.
