"So far no one is injured but (they are) in difficult situation: short of food, water and means of transport," the embassy's counsellor, Le Huu Hung, told AFP by telephone.

Vietnam has 10,000 workers in Libya and Hung said their situation is "not very good."

"We are trying to evacuate them by all means," he said.

Countries around the world are scrambling to help their citizens escape from Libya, where an insurrection has been met by a bloodly crackdown from forces loyal to long-term leader Moamer Kadhafi.
