Starting March 3, the country's ISPs will cut off access to online games between 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM. This action comes from a request issued last Wednesday.

"Provincial departments of information and communication will inspect online games activities nationwide and deal with organisations that violate regulations by cancelling their services," said deputy minister Le Nam Thang.

He assures that the new ban will ensure "internet security while not affecting the lifestyle and customs of young people." A previous measure by the ministry cut off Internet access to agents at night, much to the chagrin of many ISPs. Companies like VTC Intercom and Asiasoft have complained that this block, issued back in September, hindered access for adult customers seeking mature entertainment at night. There have also been difficulties with maintenance for the online games.

For now, the nightly gaming ban is only temporary, and the ministry will be looking to revise it later this year.
