Ambassador Vnukov also said there will be many activities related to the visit but he did not disclose details.

President Truong Tan Sang will visit Moscow to attend the 70th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War on May 9.

Ambassador Vnukov said the visits of the leaders of the two countries will facilitate regular and open dialogues of bilateral and international issues.

The Russian Ambassador said relations between Russia and Vietnam were unusual and rare as the two countries do not have any problems left by history.

Ambassador Vnukov said one of his first tasks, as the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Hanoi, is to strengthen cooperation in trade and investment, to reach the target set for 2020 of $10 billion in bilateral trade.

He reaffirmed the determination to expand cooperation in the traditional areas of energy and oil and gas. The Russian government is ready to help operations in Russia of Rusvietpetro and Gazpromviet, with the participation of PetroVietnam.

Ambassador Vnukov said that Russia - Vietnam defence cooperation was not directed against a third country and does not pose a threat to regional and world security.

As for sovereignty disputes in the region, Vnukov stated that Russia's view is absolutely clear. "We support all disputes, including disputes in the sea, to be resolved peacefully, through negotiations, on the basis of international law," he said.
