It represents 15.8% of all flights during the six-month period.

A Thanh Nien News report claimed delays had increased 0.8% over the same period last year.

Cancelled flights stood at 772.

Airline passengers increased 29% year-on-year to nearly 19 million in the first six months, it added.

Low-cost Jetstar Pacific recorded the highest rate of flight delays and cancellations at 20.7%. It was followed by VietJet Air, and Vietnam Airlines with 16.4% and 15.3%.

All carriers attributed the delays and cancellations to bad weather, technical issues, operating problems, or air traffic congestion.

Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air, which dominate the domestic market, promised to reduce their delay and cancellation rates to 10% and 12% by the end of this year, the report added.

Vietnam’s air market will see traffic increase 19% to 45 million passengers this year.
