Three possible scenarios for the country's economic growth this year were unveiled yesterday by the National Committee for Financial Supervision.

Vietnam’s 2011 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth is estimated at 6%, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 18.13% on year in December 2011, the local news provider Gafin reported.

Vietnam's gross domestic product (GDP) this year is expected to reach $119 billion, while per capita income will be roughly $1,300, according to Vu Huy Hoang, the minister of Industry and Trade.

Hanoi - Vietnam's economy grew 5.57 per cent in the first half of this year, compared with 6.16 per cent in the same period last year, government officials said Tuesday.

General Secretary of the Vietnam Communist Party Nong Duc Manh said on Wednesday in Hanoi that while high growth would be pursued in the 2011-2020 period, the country will attend more to the quality of growth.

The general Statistical Office of Vietnam's data showed that while per capita gross domestic product (GDP) at current prices in 2009 increased 1.14 percent versus 2008, the per capita gross national product (GNP) in current prices fell 1.2 percent.

“Economic growth in coming time is likely to reach higher levels against previous months and be able to even surpass the year’s target of 6.5%,” Ministry of Planning and Investment (MoPI) said in a report on socio-economic development in July and first seven months at the government's regular meeting.

Vietnam expects economic growth to pick up from next year, the government said.

Hanoi - Vietnamese economy experts and business people said Friday that a 6.5-per-cent growth target set by the government for the country's gross domestic product for 2009 may be unreasonably high. Vietnam's National Assembly approved the 6.5 per cent target on Thursday.

Vietnam's Ministry of Planning and Investment targets the economy to grow 7% next year, flat from 7% estimated for this year, state-owned Vietnam News Agency reported Wednesday.

Vietnam's premier on Tuesday vowed to battle double-digit inflation and asked the national assembly to formally lower the country's 2008 economic growth target from 8.5 to 7.0 percent. The communist government's key goals were to "curb inflation, stabilize the economy and ensure social security and sustainable development," Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung told the opening session of the assembly.
