Vietnam opposes rice export 'cartel'

Visiting Vietnamese president Truong Tan Sang Thursday made an assurance that the proposed Organisation of Rice Exporting Countries (OREC) will not become a rice cartel in the region even as he urged stronger trade relations with the Philippines that would surpass the $3 billion targetted bilateral trade level by 2016.

Philippines, Vietnam agree to pursue talks to ease tension in Spratlys

MANILA - The Philippines and Vietnam have agreed to pursue further dialogue to avoid tension in the disputed Spratly islands in the South China Sea following a bilateral meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia, between President Benigno S. Aquino III and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

The Republic of the Philippines and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam may be separately laying claim to the Spratly Islands but both governments agree in pushing for the strict implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the "East Sea" or the South China Sea towards a future Code of Conduct in the marginal sea east of China.
