Vietnam's 2009 budget deficit may reach $7.7b

Vietnam's budget deficit may reach 142.4 trillion dong ($7.7 billion) this year, after state revenue fell due to the global crisis and the government boosted spending to spur the economy, according to the finance ministry.

GDP expected to grow by 6.5 pc in 2010

Ministry of Planning and Investment recently released a summary on 2009 social economic report and plan for 2010, saying that the country's economic growth will recover while inflation could be under control and the macro-economic balance is expected to be more sustainable next year.

Vietnam 2009 growth seen at 4.75 percent

HANOI — The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Wednesday downgraded its growth forecast for Vietnam to 4.75 percent this year, saying the once-soaring economy faces considerable challenges and could slow further.

Vietnam sticks head in sand on 'buoyant growth' forecast

Speaking at the conference held on March 17 and 18 under the cooperation of the Economic Research Institute for Asean and East Asia (ERIA) and Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment's Central Institute for Economic Management, Dr Vo Tri Thanh was adamant that Vietnam's 2009 GDP growth will be at least 4% despite a forecast by the Economist Intelligence Unit released a gloomy report putting Vietnam's 2009 GDP at just 0.3%.

Boeing forecasts Vietnam’s aviation sector growth at 6%/yr

The US based Boeing Group recently forecasted that Vietnam’s aviation market will grow by 6% a year in the coming years, which is as high as that of Asia’s developing markets, according to Boeing spokesman Jim Proulx.

2008 economic growth forecast revised down to 6.7%
